CuCPS Departments


Cumberland County is located in the heart of Virginia's vast, rich agricultural belt. Many aspects of life within the county are influenced by our rural lifestyle. Our students enjoy the many recreational activities provided by Bear Creek Lake State Park. The State Park is conveniently located four miles from the public school campus.

Cumberland County Public School System is a small, rural, model school division located one hour west of Richmond, Virginia. Approximately 1,500 students attend school in the division, which is composed of one high school, one middle school and one elementary school. Cumberland County Public Schools has approximately 125 classroom teachers, librarians, guidance counselors and other teaching personnel focused on meeting the educational needs of our students.

The School Board is committed to providing the human and capital resources, which are necessary for teachers and staff members to implement an instructional program that is rigorous and challenging for all students.

    Director of Human Resources

    Dr. Elizabeth Jamerson is the Director of Human Services for Cumberland County Public Schools. Formerly, she was an English teacher at Cumberland High School and has also served as the Coordinator for Special Programs and the Technology Coordinator for CUCPS. She has a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in English from Longwood College, and a Doctorate from the Darden School of Education at Old Dominion University. In addition, she is NETS*T Certified, is a Thinkfinity Field Trainer, and is a licensed Aerobics instructor. She serves as the Clerk of the School Board, is a member of the South Central Workforce Investment Board, is Co-Chairman of the Southside Virginia Regional Technology Consortium, and is a member of VSTE. Dr. Jamerson is active in the community, and is a member and past president of the Cumberland Historical Society, member and past president of the Cumberland Ruritan Club, and a member of the Cumberland Museum Board.

    Human Resources/Licensure Specialist

    Mrs. Settle began as a student of Cumberland County Public Schools. She has served since 1991 in a variety of capacities, from finance to human resources and her current role as Human Resources/Licensure Specialist. Mrs. Settle is responsible for day-to-day management of Central Office functions and administrative support to the Director of Human Resources.
